In This Episode

Last week Ripley’s tried to tune into the minds of John Lennon and Yoko Ono. This week, we put the pedal to the metal and add the missing “link” to our collection.

Meet “Choo Choo,” a Yorkie created entirely using bicycle chains by Israeli artist Nirit Levav!

Inspired after seeing chains, gears, and pedals being thrown away at her son’s bicycle store, Nirit scours garages and bike shops across Tel Aviv for suitable parts before soldering them into place. Her chain dog sculptures, which include greyhounds, poodles, a cocker spaniel, Yorkies, an Afghan hound and a Rottweiler, sell for up to $10,000 each!

LIFE IMITATES ART: BARKS & BIKES

Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Download the Weird introduced our fans to Norman, a shaggy Briard dog owned by the Cobb family of Canton, Georgia. Norman had been riding a scooter since he was a puppy, balancing himself on the scooter unaided with his front paws resting over the handlebars, pushing himself along using his hind leg.

Well, Norman has stepped up his game. In 2014, he learned how to ride a bike and earned the Guinness World Record for fastest 30 meters on a bicycle by a dog!

WELCOME TO AMSTERDAM

Nirit’s Yorkie creation is currently on its way to the Netherlands to debut at the opening of Amsterdam’s brand-new Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Odditorium.

Here’s a sneak peek:

Believe it or not, Amsterdam has nearly 800,000 residents and an estimated 881,000 bikes! Nearly 15,000 are fished from the canals each year. Yes, fished. The city actually hires full-time employees to be bike fishermen!
